Here's how to setup teamspeak on your computer.
Go to the teamspeak website and download the current version. You need the client - not the updated executable.
Once downloaded, you will need to install the program.
- Doubleclick the downloaded file
- follow the on-screen prompts which will guide you through the installation process.
- Don't forget to Leave the checkmark in the box on the final screen of installation if you would like a icon ( shortcut ) on your desktop.
Congratulation! you finished installing teamspeak on your computer.
Setting up TeamSpeak
Ok - you now have the program and I am assuming that the installation process went well. Now you need to launch the program which is done by double clicking the TS icon left on your deaktop by the installation. It looks like this:
This is what the TS client looks when running:
Settings
To get TeamSpeak to work, we need to connect to something, This "something" is called a server. There are many hundreds throughout the world - some public and some private. Another server possibility is the multiplayer function within Flight Simulator. When a multiplayer session is set up in FS, it is usually done by IP addressing. TeamSpeak can connect and operate on this IP Address as well as the world servers. But before any connection is made, there are some settings that must be made first. Let's look at these settings. It makes a lot of sense that these are accessed by selecting "Settings" from the top of the TS window.
On this window, there are various controls you can manipulate. They are:
- Output Volume - sets the output audio volume level
- Voice Send Method - Push to talk or voice activation
- Voice Activation Level - whisper to shout
- Local Test - You can do a local test to check your settings and codecs.
(More on this in the manual)
The voice Send Method is probably the only settings option you will need. Although Voice activation is offered (voice will cause TS to go into transmit mode) it is not really recommended. You should therefore be sure that the radio button for push to talk is selected, then select a transmit key. This key should not be the same as any of the FS control keys. I personally like the right control key, but you can chose your favorite. Once you have made your selection, it can be set by clicking the "Set" button then press your key. Once you have done this, you can now press the Close button.
Connection to a Server
Now for the good stuff - connecting to a server.
Note: Make sure that your Windows Audio Mixer Recording settings show that your microphone is selected or you will have no TX audio.
Every Wednesday evening, FSNB conducts an ATC Training session. To connect to this, you will need to know a few things:
The IP Address or server name
Username
Password
To input this information, it is accessed by selecting Connection from the top menu, then from the drop-down menu, Quick Connect.
It will look like this:
I have not filled in some of the info on purpose such as:
Servrer Address - this is available from most of the FS members.
Password - also available from most FSNB members
As you can see, The nickname is essential and the format for that entry is shown...usually your name followed by a "/" then your FSNB number.
Once you are in possession of the credentials and properly entered, press Connect and you will find yourself in the pilots lobby.
When connected, it will look like this:
You should see other players - either in the lobby or in one of the other "rooms". When someone is in the transmit mode, their light is green and when in receive mode, their light is extinguished.
Now, to talk, press your "transmit" Button and speak - when no one else is speaking of course.
Now - what if no one is in the lobby with you? Maybe the players are located elsewhere within TS. If you try yo talk, you simply will be talking to yourself. SO, to change chanels, observe what room (Chanel) the players are in. Click that chanel to highlight it.
Example - all players are on the Tuesday Night Prop Flying chanel.
Click that chanel to highlight it then from the Chanels menu selection at the top of the TS window, select Change Channel. (A quick way to change chanels is to simply double click the chanel's name and you will go to that chanel - warp speed!)
